Joshua Tree NP, CA
Our original plan was to head up north to Yosemite National Park's Horsetail Fall to catch the Fire Fall. Unfortunately, things came up that hindered our decision-making. So, we decided on a one-day trip to Joshua Tree instead!
We packed our cooler with 4 hearty pb&j on whole wheat, a bottle of Ripple Vanilla Pea Milk, Sumo Citrus oranges, extra water, roasted almonds and our pup's food then headed out at 7 A.M. We got into the city of Joshua Tree at 10:15AM and headed straight to the visitor's center to pay our $25 permit (pay here and you can drive straight through without having to wait in line at the park's entrance). We also grabbed ourselves a map because GPS can be iffy inside the park - it is, after all, a dessert!
It was around 50 degrees and the park was eerily quiet - i LOVED it. Since we brought our pup with us, there were certain guidelines we needed to follow inside the park. Dogs were not allowed 100 feet from the roads and not allowed on any of the trails. This was to protect the park's wildlife and to keep our pets safe.
We knew we wanted to adventure down unpaved roads so that's where we were headed! Plus, there's a higher chance of it being less crowded with tourism. Once we got to Geology Tour Road, we pull over to stretch our legs and have some lunch! Keep in mind, an all-wheel drive is recommended for the Geology Tour Road.

Once we had decided that it was time to head back, there was one more pitstop that I had planned for us to go before we headed home. Just 30 minutes outside of Joshua Tree was a little place called Landers. There lies Giant Rock, which was once a full boulder, until the year 2000 when the town heard a loud rumbling noise. Until this day, nobody knows what caused the fracture. Aliens? Supernatural? Lightning? I definitely enjoy the mistery!
